2019-2020 School Year
Higher Ground is opening on September 3rd for the 2019-2020 school year. We are currently full but are still accepting applications for our waiting list.
Student Wellness Center at Wakefield Middle School
More than an after-school program, Higher Ground’s Youth Center, located in the historic Wakefield Middle School, delivers a results-driven social and emotional curriculum by way of fun, engaging activities, as well as provides critical behavioral health services in a safe, loving environment.
Community Schools Initiative
Higher Ground is the lead agency in creating the Community Schools infrastructure in Tucson’s high-need neighborhoods. In collaboration with Tucson and Sunnyside Unified School Districts, Arizona Serve, La Frontera, Pima County, the Mayor’s Office, and a number of fellow non-profits in the area, we provide a comprehensive services package, individualized to the needs of each school site.
Collaborative In-School Programs
We bring our life-changing support services directly into the school, via collaborative partnerships with the Tucson and Sunnyside Unified School Districts, in which we deliver social-emotional learning, principally to youth that have been suspended or have demonstrated concerning behavioral issues.
Patent-Pending Proprietary GRIT Studio Mapping Tool
Higher Ground is the only nonprofit in Tucson that addresses both poverty and trauma in our youth. Using our proprietary GRIT Studio Mapping tool, we go an inch-wide and a mile-deep to find out what each child needs, then provide them and their families with individualized services and support.
