The Difference

We provide academic tutoring; after-school, high-quality recreational programs; mental/behavioral health services; family support; leadership development; college scholarship; life coaching (through Touchpoint Connections); mentoring; school support; financial literacy; drop-out prevention services; intervention; substance abuse support; emancipation skills; and anything that the youth we serve need. Starting January 2015, we will now also support students who have dropped out from school by re-engaging them into a pathway to a future and career, regardless of what road they decide to take.

At Higher Ground, we are focused on building relationships with our students over simply offering programming. We have a mandatory parent and student orientation and an intake system with a parent agreement. We utilize a system that allows us to follow an individual plan from K-12th grade, and then give them volunteer opportunities for college and resources all the way till adulthood. Due to our relationship focus, we have created a program that has outcomes for our students. Click here for our student outcomes.

We complete backpack checks and have mandatory homework time along with supplementary education including one on one tutoring. We have over 60+ volunteers who come at least once a week, the majority of whom are from the University of Arizona.

No student is ever kicked out, and we offer 24/7 support to families and students including an intervention team. We are creating a community of partnerships with schools, Pima County, families, churches and are working towards a holistic approach for our students. Higher Ground bridges all the gaps in our students’ lives including academic, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual.

We are not a program; we are a life-changing process and that is what sets us apart.

Our Academic Center

At Higher Ground, we believe in academic success for all of our students. All of our students participate in mandatory homework time. We perform regular backpack checks on all of our students, track their TUSD Stats to ensure success academically, and communicate with teachers when we need to. We offer various opportunities for the students to participate in programs and excel in their academics including our homework tutoring. Please visit the pages to learn more about what we do and contact us if you have any questions.

Academic success is a key component of our mission statement and we are working to give students the opportunity to succeed. Visit our Needs page to learn more about the school to prison pipeline and what we need to do in order to create pipelines to college, the military, and so much more to create our leaders in the community.
