Higher Ground currently participates in El Tour de Tucson on November 23. Along with our students, one of our board members, Lynn Guyot, is planning on riding the 60 mile race as well. She has decided to help raise funds for Higher Ground and below is her brief statement.

I've ridden El Tour many times in the past, but this year I've decided to ride in order to raise money for Higher Ground a Resource Center. Higher Ground is a nonprofit organization that strives to make a difference in the lives of kids living in neighborhoods in South Tucson. The kids live in an area of high crime, high poverty, 50% high school drop out rates, mostly single parent homes, high drug, alcohol and gang activity, and high incarceration rates.

Students who attend Higher Ground participate in tutoring and electives such as: dance, art, jujutsu, boxing, football, or cycling. What sets Higher Ground apart is the special focus placed on reaching, transforming and elevating students and their families. Caring adults are present with students--encouraging them, listening to them, and challenging them to dream, work hard and develop a positive self-image.

I am so thankful for your support and for joining me in support of our youth at Higher Ground! This program is truly making a difference and I'm very grateful to be a part of it!
